Front oil seal

All,

Has anyone had leaks at the front oil seal  in the front engine cover?

I have a seep that happens when the engine is operating all day.

Any warnings, advice, etc about swapping the seal?

Do I need to dig deeper in the engine?  the manual states thet the 
outer seal can be changed with out removing the cover. True for 
medium -kill home mechanics?

Do the front forks actually have to be removed to get the inner cover off?

(its a 97 model...)
