At breakfast Saturday, Darryl Richman said he was going to ride his 1928 BMW R52 to the antique motorcycle ride Sunday. I thought if he could urge his antique from Santa Cruz to San Francisco, I could make it on my modern 1964 BMW R60/2. Both arrived without incident. To my surprise, a large contingent of SMBC were also in attendance. The day was spectacular with warm temperatures and minimal fog. The ride wound through downtown along the Embarcadero, Fishermans’ Wharf area, and the Presidio arriving at Baker Beach. The noisy cadre then departed on a route through GG Park and Sunset district to Twin Peaks where we joined a gaggle of tourists and a film crew. The final leg dropped down through the Castro to the starting point at the San Francisco Boat Club near 3rd and Embarcadero. Many stayed for the barbecue, however I beat the football traffic and headed home to San Jose in time to watch the second half of the 49ers game. I overheard an unofficial number of approximately 200 bikes in attendance.
