Joe at work, Nov ‘99
This is Joe Groeger in 1999 scoping out the condition of the large bearing from the rear-end of a 1966 BMW R69S. It’s an example of the type of things that used to happen on Saturday mornings at Groeger Special Tooling. (He found indications of pitting on the race – the bearing was replaced).
Joe passed away in February 2020, a few weeks shy of his 100th birthday.
Click on the picture of Joe to see pictures taken at the Groeger Group 2012 Holiday party by various people. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page where you can find a few pictures from earlier gatherings.

Three riders meandered southwest while staying away from Half Moon Bay pumpkin related activities during an October after breakfast ride.
Chris provides pictures and a trip report about the ride to Old Stations on Aug 24-26. Looks like they had a good time.
Chris provides a trip report and pictures regarding his ride to and from the 40th BMWMOA National Rally in Sedalia MO. Seems he bought a bike on the trip, too.
Chris sends some pictures taken during the 49’er rally on Memorial Day. Guess what Chris volunteered to do over the weekend?
Darryl, Simon, and Marc manned the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners booth at the 2012 Quail Motorcycle gathering. Marc took a few pictures of some of the bikes at the show.
The storm passed and the skies cleared in time for Darryl’s 12th Surf City Tech Day. I didn’t see a lot of tech going on, but the food and company were sure great.
Birthday group
Joe turns 92 this week. In celebration the Saturday brunch group was larger than usual. Not pictured are, Jim Houts, Alan Huntzinger, Bill Grass (w/Clinton) and the photographer (Chris Weld).
Five left the shop after brunch this early March day for a romp in the Santa Cruz Mtns; Richman, Zunkel, Steiner, Grass and Weld. Weld knocked down 170 + miles, house to house: the longest post breakfast ride on record. Joe Steiner was mounted on his brand new V-Strom. What a great way to break both in.
Another after breakfast ride, this one on a beautiful January afternoon in the east bay.
Saturday riders
An unusual group of Saturday riders. Dick, Rob, and Chris. The unusual part is the addition of Rob. This is the first time I can remember that he joined the Saturday group on a Saturday. Picture from Dick.
