This morning we started in Eureka, Montana. The sky gray, cloudy and windy, but it does not threaten with nastiness. It’s just there and you are aware of the heavy dark clouds.
At the motel, we learned to take highway 36, cross the river and turn North to the Yaak. Really the Yaak River Road.
The Yaak River Rd is a two lane (really one and a half) road that climbs from the River to 5,800 feet. We can see deep into Canada, which is just one mile away. You can see a pine forest for eternity.
On this narrow road, Laura has decided to ride at 22 miles an hour, and we have 100 miles to go! “Hey Laura, what’s it with the 20-mile an hour riding?”. She indicates that she has seen three dear crossing the road… I’d better be careful. Ok. I believed her and not. I think the narrow-curvy road along with the wind has her all out of sorts.
A third into the Yaak River Road, the skies open with a downpour of biblical proportion… Noah, I need that boat now!!
Conditions are such, that between Laura’s-20 mph riding, the road and the weather It looks like traversing this road will take the whole day.
After a stop, to get rain gear on, she takes off like a rocket, saying “I’ll go ahead and You guys just catch up with me”. I said to myself, good thinkin’ girl.
Well! After what was hardly a minute, to get the rain gear on, John and I start after Laura. A mile, two miles, three miles and no Laura. Hmmm…
Mid way, this Yaak River Rd there is actually a town, and yes, it is called YAAK.
John and i are doing better than fifty miles an hour! After six or so miles, at Yaak, we see her walking across the street to a store.
Well! Good to see you again girl! You must have been flyin’!
After town (?) of Yaak, the road is in much better shape. At this point it is called highway 508. The sky is clearer, the sun wants to come out and shine, the wind is there, but no longer causing problem.
20 miles later, we are on highway 2, later highway 95 and we are heading South to Post Falls, Idaho some 80 miles south.
Correct! John has another friend from childhood, we are going to visit…. Gary. As is the case with all his friends… We will stay the night here.
