La Grande, Oregon
We left our host, Gary and Lee early without causing commotion. For them it’s a working day.
Today’s destination is La Grande, Oregon. This time we visit Laura’s family, and yes we will stay there for the night.
To get there we have chosen Eastern Washington county roads taking us thru wheat fields as far as the eye can see.
This country is as yellow as Iowa is green (corn fields)… and just as beautiful. Rolling hills of yellow.
Midway, in Colfax we met this guy riding a Chinese motorcycle that looks like an adventure bike. Nothing impressive. Well the guy turns out to be a Iron Butt Rider. He got his certification doing the 1,000 miles in twenty hours… on the Chinese enduro type bike!! Knobbies and all ! I asked him “nothing wrong with your bike, but, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”
Enough of Colfax, back on the road. It is evident the pull oh home is strong and getting stronger. We are stopping less often making the day’s destination more aggressively. In fact they are already counting the days needed to be home.
This home-bound is all okay with me. I like riding, were it to be less direct home, all to the better to me, but I have caught the fever… home.
La Grande. I can not say a word about the town. About Amparo and Felipe, I’ll say this, they are like hitting the jack-pot! He is a retired university professor spilling class and education at every word. Not showing off, that’s just what education does to you. It polishes your outlook on everything that surrounds you. Amparo, truly a woman of vision, starting by marrying a man of education. She could not be any less.
I wish I could spend more time with them. But, no. Remember the pull-of-home? Well, it’s calling!
