timing light
It’s been two weeks since I’ve done anything with the bike. There are only a few things left to do. I’ve got time to finish the service today.
The first thing I did was back the bike out of the garage and start it up while connected to the timing light. I must have done a very good job setting the static timing as the light showed the S mark dead center in the timing window. I unclipped the light from the sparkplug lead and took a ride to get the bike up to operating temperature.
Check sync

Off idle sync
I put a dozen miles on the bike to get it to operating temperature. And it was a nice afternoon for a ride, albeit a short one. After removing my gear I hooked up my balancer and checked. The idle was off a touch. So was the off idle. Neither was out of adjustment by very much. I expected more since I’d removed the carburators for cleaning.
Drain hot oil
Old oil
After adjusting the carbs I rolled the bike onto the stand and jacked it up for easier access to the oil drain plug. No more laying on the concrete floor. I drained the old oil into a cut out oil container. It’s thin enough to fit under the bike, holds enough oil, and is easy to empty into a jug for recycling. Works well.
I put a new crush ring on the drain plug and put the drain plug back on the bike. The last item on the check list was to fill the case with fresh oil.
Ready to ride
That’s it for this service. The bike is ready to ride.
