Zeiss 35mm C-Biogon Modification

Monday, 5 Jun 2023

I like the 35mm Zeiss lens I use on my M11. Oh, sure. I’d love to have the new Leica APO-Summicron-M 35 mm and maybe the next time I have a spare $9K I’ll get one :-) Until then the ZEISS C Biogon T* 2,8/35 ZM (official name) will have to do.

As nice as the C-Biogon is there is the slightly annoying focus nub that Zeiss uses instead of a Leica style focus tab. I much prefer the focus tab.

Possible improvement

Perhaps this will help. It is a stick on focus tab made by 7 Artisans for their lenses. It can be made to fit according to something I found on the web. Cheap enough (about $8) to try.

The tab uses a 3M double sided tape to attach to the lens. However, the Zeiss gives me a strip a bit less than 6mmm wide to attach a tab that is between 7.25 and 12 mm wide. To make this work I only removed 5.25mm of the backing from the double sided tape.

The sticky tape attaches to the focus ring, not the fixed body. The focus ring still rotates freely. No change in feel.

Much better. Easier and possibly faster to focus due to the larger size of the tab over the stock nub.
