I’ve read that the upper chain roller on the DR650 is in a position where it is sometimes ripped out of the frame. Many suggest removing the roller and plugging the hole with a set screw.
Chain hits roller
It’s obvious that the chain hits the roller. The bike to date has mostly been ridden on back roads with a little bit of freeway and city streets thrown in when running errands. No off road yet. No jumps. Etc. Yep, I think I’ll remove it before it removes itself.
Chain roller removed
Frame hole plugged
I didn’t have an 8mm set screw. I ground down the head of an 8mm hex screw and used it with some blue loctite to fill the hole. The second picture shows that it is still pretty close to the chain. Next trip to the hardware store I’ll get an appropriate sized set screw to replace this temporary fix.
