What’s this?
Something from Fed Ex. For the bike. The bike has been mostly neglected these days. I’ve only riden 6 miles since April 24. I need to do something about that. Anyway, I was stocking up on things I’ll need for the next service. That service is still 4K miles away, but better to be prepared. I’ll need oil (✔︎), oil filter, and an air filter.
What? The stock paper air filter is $54. So how much does a re-usable air filter cost?
From Italy
Re-usable air filter for the KTM 790
Pre Oiled
This one from Italy gets good reviews and costs less than $80 delivered. It’s over kill for my needs. I don’t plan on any desert racing and/or deep water crossings. But paying once is better than paying as long as I own the bike.
Removing the stock filter
There it is
Airbox is clean
The stock filter doesn’t need replacing yet, but as long as I have the new filter why not. I’ll save the stock filter as an emergency spare. I was happy to see/feel no dust in the air box. Not surprising given where I usually ride the bike.
Ready to install the new filter
Installed
A reminder
The new filter is a slightly tighter fit. Good. That should make for a better seal around the airbox. The tacky oil that was pre-applied to the filter will help, too.

Tomorrow I must take a ride. Because.
