Time for a new front tire
I bought a replacement for this tire, a Shinko 705 90/90-21, back in October. There is still tread left, but I can feel the cupping. And the tire is old. It was put on the bike over 3 years (15,500) miles ago. Time to mount new rubber.
This is the only picture I took. I’ve got plenty of tire changing pics and didn’t feel the need for any more. Also:
- The spindle was stuck-ish in the wheel and took forever to remove.
- Someone was taking a walk and saw the garage door open. They walked up to chat all about motorcycles and my bike in particular. That took some time.
- For once the old tire came off the rim without too much effort. To make up for that it took forever to get the last bit of bead over the rim when mounting the new tire. New scratches were added to the rim.
- I apparently didn’t remove the batteries from my most used because most common range, 20–100 Nm, fancy electronic 3/8” torque wrench. One of the four AAA batteries corroded and is now stuck deep in the battery tube. Of course it was the bottom most battery.
The tire got mounted and all the tools were put away. I pulled the car back into the garage when I remembered: I never checked the balance. I’m going to ride, anyway. If I don’t like the feel I’ll do something about it.
I’ll think about that while working on getting the stuck battery out of the torque wrench.
