Reinstall shock
Freshly rebuilt
The shock was ready a few days after I dropped it off. I didn’t pick it up until a needed part was also in. That was yesterday afternoon. Today I’ll put the shock back on the bike. The rebuilder said I had the correct spring, but the fixed preload (that set by the location of the hydraulic adjuster mechanism) was too much. I can see that the adjuster is higher on the shock (less fixed preload) than it was when delivered new from Ohlins.
Start at the top
Different location
I hung the shock from the top of the sub-frame and noticed that the cable to the preload adjuster was 180 degree from where it used to be. That meant it needed to be mounted at a slightly different orientation. How about that, it’s easier to grasp to turn, now. I wonder if that was an intentional change or an accident?
Bottom
The bottom needed to be rotated a few degrees to fit squarely between the swing-arm. I raised the swing-arm with my scissor jack to center the mounting hole. Out came the blue loctite stick and my torque wrench.
Torqued to spec
Installed
50 Nm, a new nut, and some anti-seize around the head of the bolt for the top mount. 58 Nm plus blue loctite for the bottom mount. The scissor jack can now be put away. I’ll wait until I finish installing the rear wheel flange and new brake rotor before I install the muffler.

Shock Sock
One up-close picture of the mounting for the hydraulic adjuster. Note the logo is now on the inside. Then there is the covering shock sock. How will people know I’m using name brand shocks :-)
