light bar
Still no bike or word that the bike has been shipped. That doesn’t stop the add-ons from arriving. Today the SW-Motech light bar landed on my doorstep.
Friday, July 12 2013 [60 miles]
I just finished installing the panniers and still have a little time left so thought I’d attack the light bar.

There are two hex shaped holes in the braket beneath the headlamp where the mounting screws for the light bar fit. I thought I might have to remove plastic to get at them, but it turns out that access from the rear is pretty easy when you crank the handlebars from one side to the other. A long handled hex wrench (6mm) just fit to hold the screw. There are slots in the lightbar perch that fit a 17mm wrench. I installed the light bar on the perch for fit and then used blue thread locker before final torque to keep everything in place.
The last image was taken a few days later when I had the plastic off the bike.
The last step was to mount the Hella Micro DE fog lights I took off my ‘05 GS. They are not wired, yet. I’ll attack wiring of the lights and other items some time next week. For that the plastic (and probably the tank) will have to come off the bike so I can pick the best locations.
Note that the lights are mounted below the bar even though the instructions say to not do that. I can’t see a reason not to. My guess is that if mounted below the bar light would interfere with the matching SW-Motech upper crash bars.
