Before I continue with bike wiring I need to install the hand guards.
Touratech handguards
Attach at bar end
Attach mid bar
The Touratech instructions consist of a diagram. The mounting kit for the 2013 R1200GS seens pretty simple. The bar clamps are marked R and L. But looking at the instructions you use both an R and an L on each side of the bike. The difference is on the right side the R is closer to the rider and on the left side the L is closer to the rider. Strange. Also strange is that the diagrams are from the POV of the front of the bike so “right” is on the left and vice versa.
Loose clutch perch
Handguard installed
I had to loosen the clutch/mirror perch to make room for the bar clamp on the left side. There is a mark on the bar (a line) and a mark on the perch clamp that tells you when the controls are aligned as BMW intended. That’s where I put the perch before torquing to the indicated 8 N-m.
Handlebar bag fits
GPS fits, too
GPS wiring detail
Will the handlebar bag still fit? Yep. There is room for the GPS mount on the inside of the left perch, too. The GPS came from my ‘05 GS. I did replace the arm on the Ram mount with one that is a bit shorter.
Now I can get back to wiring.
