At 7 AM this morning the crew started laying the black paper weed barrier. That was followed by barrow after barrow of bed gravel to a depth of 3 inches plus. The plus is where extra gravel was added to flatten the area with a slight pitch away from the house for drainage. A mechanized tamper was used to pack everything down.
The area surrounding the pathway stones got less gravel. Once the stones were layed in their approximate positions a layer of sand was added under and around the stones. The depth of stone plus sand plus gravel matches the depth of the gravel in the turf only areas.
A large and very heavy roll of the artifical turf was manhandled into the back yard. A smaller roll went to the side yard. Both were trimmed to very rough shape. Tomorrow a smaller crew will start positioning the turf.
