Old Furnace
The furnace is about 35 years old. It is starting to make funny noises. I had to replace a burnt out safety interlatch switch a while back. And there are scortch marks at the connector to the control board. The goal was to install a high efficiency furnace, but they need a drain. The house is on a slab. I didn’t want to tear up walls. Will stick with a replacement for what I have.

The replacement furnace is an 80% efficient made by Carrier. It has the same capacity as the furnace being replaced.
Old furnace gone
Filter holder installed
The old furnace was removed and the area vacuumed and cleaned. A modification was made to the air plenum to fit the new furnace. This furnace has a nice holder to make it easy to change the 2" filter. The original furnace would only accept 1" thick filters.
Almost ready
Time to test
Gas turned on. Power applied. It heats. Might be a bit quieter than the old furnace. It doesn’t make funny noises. Put the covers on and call the job done.

It’s been 10 days. The furnace works as expected. It might even heat the house a bit faster than the old. This furnace also supports a fan only mode, something I can control from the thermostat. The old furnace could not run in that mode. That may come in handy some future heat wave to better move the cool air from the mini-split heat-pump A/C in the family room.
