Things are slowing down, probably because I’m thinking more of an upcoming vacation than the bike. Today I want to clean the transmission. This is in preparation for bead blasting at Joe Groeger’s tomorrow.

These pictures show a before and after cleanup. First WD-40 was used as a mild solvent, them some degreaser, and finally some soap and water. The case is now clean enough to be bead blasted which I’ll do tomorrow.

Clean transmission, front
After breakfast with Joe and the Saturday morning group (a small group this morning, only 4 on a rainy day) I masked off the places where I didn’t think little glass beads belonged and then blasted the case clean. After blasting I washed the case, then washed it again and used compressed air to get it good and dry. Finally I removed the masking.
The pictures are post-cleaning. The transmission looks great. It was then stored in a plastic bag where it will stay until it comes time to put it back in the bike.
