Top off battery
Needs shim
Wood shim
I got off to a late start on the bike this afternoon as Mitsuko and I took a short hike off of the Windy Hills then went out to a late lunch. I put the charger on the battery before we left so it would be ready to install in the bike. As the pictures show, I needed to cut a shim from some scrap wood to get the battery strap to hold the smaller battery in place. The shim is temporary… I’ll hollow out the case of my old battery, paint it black, and drop the new battery inside, later.
Air cleaner
Air tube
Other air tube
After the battery was in the bike I installed the air cleaner and the air intake tubes. A smear of silicone grease on the rubber seals make the air tube installation a snap.
Exhaust parts
Anti-seize
Loose fit
Cross-over
I cleaned the exhaust parts one more time, applied anti-seize where appropriate, and loosely fitted the exhaust plus cross-over pipe onto the bike. Nothing is even remotely tight at this point.
There they are
Still shiny
More anti-seize
There was a short delay while I searched for the mufflers. I forgot where I’d put them. Once found I applied a bit more anti-sieze to the ends of the exhaust and loosely fit the mufflers to the bike.
Tight front

Back
Once the entire system was on the bike I tightened everything from Front to rear. With my history of losing mufflers I added some blue loctite to the muffler retaining hardware.
Tomorrow it starts
Dinner time. Tomorrow early afternoon I’ll be taking some photos for a friend selling his bike. Hopefully tomorrow late after noon the R69S will start and take me on a short test ride.
