About 9.5 lbs
Cut on the back side
Cut less than thread depth
Last Saturday I took my flywheel to Joe’s for further lightening. The first image shows the flywheel as I took it out of the bike. It has had material removed from the rear face, dropping it from a stock 13 lbs to about 9.5 lbs. Joe cut more material, this time from the front face. The cut is not as deep as the clutch mounting threads. The weight is now down to just over 7 lbs.

Visable marks
The old paint job to make the timing marks visable needed some touch up. I removed the old pant and cleaned the edge of the flywheel in prep for new paint. While the primer and paint were warming up I masked off all but the section of the flywheel around the timing marks. Primer, wait a bit, color, wait a bit, scratch paint off of timing marks. The light/dark contrast makes the marks easier to see. The top of the black end exactly at the OT mark.
Lifters, all pitted
While waiting for paint to dry I checked out the lifters I got from Joe. Alas, when looked at under the loupe I see the beginnings of pitting on the face of all. Not sure what I’m going to do about this, yet.

Not much progress because I’ve been busy doing other things and I’m mostly waiting for parts and services. Example: The slingers I ordered are back ordered. I could use one of the slingers I took out of the bike but the other has holes around the mounting screw area. I’ll wait for new slingers.
New (and some old) parts
Ready to go
Some services have been performed and stuff ordered has arrived. I’ve gaskets, seals (including a seal for my transmission), bearings, new rings, and, most importantly, a crank ready to install. Brent found the front rod a bit loose, necessitating new rollers. All fixed.
I need to clean, mask, bead blast, and paint the cylinders. I’m waiting for the heads. I’m also waiting for lifters and cam work. I just dropped off the lifters that need work today. With luck all work will be done about the time that the backordered slingers get here. Maybe the bike will go back together in July.
