Ready to drain oil
Red? (reflection from bike lift)
I took the bike on a test ride both to get it warm for the oil change planned for today and to check the work I did yesterday. I filled up the gas tank during the ride. Nothing obviously different. I think that’s a good sign. I do like the riding position with the new risers installed.
Instead of removing bash plate
Grease?
Used oil filter
O-ring OK
I noticed what looked and felt like grease in the oil filter and on the oil filter cover. I’d expect assembly lube to wash away in hot oil. This may have been something slathered on the O-ring. Not sure.
Ready to add oil
Fresh oil
I added fresh oil up to the level shown then started the bike and let it run for a minute or two to let the new oil circulate. After killing the engine and litting it sit for a few minutes the level was at the bottom mark. I again added oil to bring it up to the mid-way point.
I’ll check it again after a ride that gets the bike up to full operating temperature and top the level off if necessary.
Oil spill
It’s not a complete service unless I spill at least a little oil on the garage floor. This time it was a bit more than a little. That’s the other reason I keep cat liter in the garage.
