mounting hardware
spacer and screw sized
The package of mounting hardware wasn’t missing anything. The first thing I noticed was that there are several different sized screws and spacers. Getting everything correct was going to take a bit of effort. It makes a different which hardware goes on which side of the bike.
Right side hardware
Left side hardware
I put the hardware together using a dial caliper to make sure that the 40 mm spacer, for example, went on the M10x65 screw while the 30 mm spacer went on the M10x55 screw. One caveat: I laid things out as if I was facing the bike which put the left side bars and hardware on my right.
Ooops. Of course when it came time to grab hardware I grabbed the set on the right for the right side. Don’t do that.
Plastic protector
Plastic protectors removed
Scratch on plastic protector
The first step was to remove the plastic valve cover protectors. The bottom rear screw is longer than the other two as it also holds the bottom coil protective cover. The screw is too long to only hold the coil protective cover. I replace it with one of the shorter screws that were used to hold the valve cover protector in place.
Small note: the plastic valve cover protectors were removed because some simplistic research on my part seemed to show the too much protection was a bad thing. Without the plastic protectors if you hit something, the bars bend some. No big deal. With both bars and protectors the bars may hit the protectors, driving them into the valve cover that you’re trying to protect.
