tools
These are the tools that are needed. Well, a 6 or 8 inch extension would be quite helpful. I didn’t have one so had to guestimate the 105 inch-lbs/9 ft-lbs/12 Nm that should be used on the upper mounting screws. The tools are a T-55 Torx, T-30 Torx, 10 mm hex bit socket, 8 mm hex bit socket, 5 mm hex bit socket, 3 mm hex wrench, and a torque wrench.
The tool list is one of my minor gripes about this kit (and the Wunderlich steering stop kit, too). Since just about everything else on the bike is Torx, why doesn’t H&B supply Torx hardware?
left side, upper mount point
left side, upper mount
The T-30 socket is needed to remove the fastener where the upper support is mounted on the left side. The left side upper support is held on with an M6x30 screw, washer, and an 18 mm spacer. Note that the screw is not tight. I’ll torque everything at the end.
right side, upper mount
There is a stock bracket on the right side for the crash bars. An M6x18 screw and washer are used to attach the upper mount to this mounting point. It should be noted that I put the M6x10 set screws in the upper support before attaching the support to the bike. I made sure they were loose enough to not interfere with the bars.
